One of our clients recently declared a bold ambition: achieving Net Zero Carbon Emissions by 2050. When we asked for their plan, they replied, “That’s why you guys are here.” Amid escalating climate change, achieving net zero carbon emissions has become a crucial goal for many organizations. The race is on, with numerous companies publicly pledging to hit Net Zero by 2050. Despite these public commitments, many organizations have no idea how they will achieve this. To meet this goal, organizations must manage their carbon footprints, akin to managing a financial budget. Project Portfolio Management (PPM) and strategic project selection play pivotal roles in this endeavor, enabling organizations to align their project activities with their carbon reduction objectives.

A carbon budget is the total amount of CO2 emissions permissible over a set period to stay within a specific temperature limit, as outlined by the Paris Agreement.
